LeBron James Donates 1,000 Computers

LeBron James first used a computer in the fifth grade.

“What was that, Amazon Trail?” James asked his long-time girlfriend Savannah, after his foundation kicked off a nationwide donation of 1,000 HP computers at Boys and Girls Clubs like the one in Northwest Miami. “Oregon Trail! Oh, and Number Munchers!”

But he didn’t have all much technological access, let alone training, until a few years later, after he transferred to St. Vincent St. Mary in Akron.

James spoke of the importance of that access at his event Wednesday.

“I just look at our kids, for instance,” James said. “We have a 6 and a 3-year-old, and they have IPads. That just lets you know how much brighter these kids are this generation than they were just one generation or two generations ago. We’ve got kids that are running around with I-Pads and I-Phones, they know how to work it. It’s not like they just have it as toys. So to be here and see this kids with these HP computers, they’re going to learn a lot. And, if they have, as we believe, the right people behind them to drive them to a great education, it will work out for them.”

How proficient is James on the computer these days?

“He’s good,” Brinson said.

“I’ve got a few sites,” James said. “I only look at a few sites and that’s it.”

Fifty-eight other Boys and Girls will also receive computers.
